Maureen and Edith manage the merchandise for Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation and use their stall as a way to connect with people living with cancer. Edith says; “it’s not about how much money we make. It’s more about the exposure, talking to people and raising awareness that we see as important”.
Lymphoedema is a potential side effect of breast cancer treatments like surgery and radiotherapy. It’s the name for swelling and discomfort in the body due to damage to or removal of the lymph nodes.
In December 2017, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse patient Moray Gallacher became the first Australian to receive a mastectomy while fully awake, performed by surgeon A/Prof Sanjay Warrier and anaesthetist Dr Ryan Downey.

SBCF provides support to breast cancer patients and their families through the funding of Breast Care Nurses. Breast Care Nurses provide physical, psychological and emotional support to patients and their families over the course of their treatment. We spend 5 minutes with beloved breast care nurse, Ann Carrigy.
With a capacity of 350 women, the Mosman Whales Rugby Club’s annual Ladies Day fundraiser has sold out more than a month in advance.
“It’s always a successful day,” says club president Michael Flude, adding that the club usually raises $10,000 to $11,000 each year. “It sells out every year… Everybody talks about our Ladies Day.”
