The Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Sydney Breast Cancer Institute, which is one of Australia's leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of breast cancer. The Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for research and treatment of breast cancer, raising awareness of breast cancer and supporting individuals and their families faced with breast cancer. Since 1995 the Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation has raised close to $3 million due to the tireless energy and dedication of its members who work in a voluntary capacity for the Foundation.
The Sydney Breast Cancer Institute relies on donations and support from funds raised by the Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation for vital breast cancer research, patient education and specialised equipment.
The Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation currently comprises the following members: Dr Jane Beith; Dr Hugh Carmalt; Mrs Lynne Crookes OAM; Ms Pam Hance; Mrs Harriett Harrison (Treasurer); Ms Marie Janik, Mrs Margo-Lynne Lee; Ms Danielle Walley (Vice-President); Mrs Anne West; Ms Deborah West (President); Associate Professor Richard West, AM. Honorary committee members are Ms Angela Bishop, Mrs Jacqueline Samuels, Associate Professor Stuart Renwick, AM, Ms Amanda Warn and Mrs Jan Warn.
The Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation Patrons are: Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, Governor of New South Wales and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC, OBE.
The Sydney Breast Cancer Institute is one of Australia's leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of breast cancer. The Institute is Australia's largest breast cancer treatment centre, currently treating over 3500 breast cancer patients every year, representing 40% of women with breast cancer in NSW. The Institute provides a full range of services from regular check-ups to full treatment, using the country's top specialists, specialist equipment and the latest research.
The Institute is made up of a network of Sydney hospitals and research units, which are all centres of excellence in treating breast cancer. These include Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, King George V Hospital, Concord General Hospital, Rachel Forster Breast Clinic, Strathfield Private Hospital and University of Sydney and the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology.
